Captain Clarence L. "Solie" Solander, pilot of "Playmate Four Two", departed Morotai at 0600 with orders to cover strikes on Tarakan, Borneo. At 1030, he received message that a pilot had gone down near Tarawao, just off a Jap strip. He arrived at 1245 and sighted four P-38's circling the survivor who was down in the water. Captain Solander landed at took Captain Roger W. Nordquist, 12th Fighter Squadron, 12th Fighter Group aboard. Captain Nordquist had been forced to ditch his damaged plane at 1045, two hours before the rescue. His squadron had been strafing the Jap strip near Tawao when his ship was damaged by anti-aircraft fire, forcing him down. He was unhurt. Arrived at base at 1800 and sent Captain Nordquist to the 155th Station Hospital.
