after he returned from the war. Note the Navy gold wings above his right
pocket. Most of the Catalina pilots went through the Navy's syllabus when
they qualified in the OA-10A Catalina at Pensacola, Florida. Some actually
wore them while they were overseas during the war, but many did not. They
were "razzed" quite a bit from those Army Air Corp pilots who were not dual
rated. Hugh stayed in the Reserve for twenty plus years and attained
