Second Lieutenant Jay Kenneth
Brockett, (1921 - ) was born at Bristolville, Ohio on April 20th, 1921 to A.J. and E.V. Brockett. He
was one of four children. He attended Bristol Public Schools and graduated High School in
May 1939. Lieutenant Brockett
volunteered for the Army Air Cadet program in late 1942 and was called up in February
1943. He was sent to Nashville, Tennessee for classification and on to pilot training as
follows:
Lieutenant Brockett
graduated in Class 43-K in December 1943 and proceeded to San Antonio, Texas for
instructor training. Upon completion he was re-assigned to Moody Field as a flight
instructor in AT-10's. In November 1944, Lieutenant Brockett received orders to proceed
overseas for assignment as a replacement co-pilot. After stops in Kearns, Utah and San
Francisco he ended up in New Guinea. He arrived in Tacloban, Philippine Islands and was
assigned to the 2nd Emergency Rescue there. He was then sent to Morotai for transition
training and then more co-pilot time. After some time he was given a crew and sent to
Zamboanga, P.I. where he flew more than 50 combat missions. He left the South Pacific and
headed home around Christmas 1945. He remained in the Reserve and was discharged in
September 1957.
Total military flight time was around
1,600 hours in the following aircraft: AT-10, B-25, B-24, OA-10A, and flight trainers. He

Jay Brockett married Virginia Anderson in March 1947 and moved to
Tulsa, Oklahoma. He attended the Spartan School of Aero Engineering and
graduated in 1949 with an Aero Engineering degree. He worked 35 years
for various aerospace companies on such programs as Apollo, B-1, Space
Shuttle, several Boeing airplanes, and Goodyear Airships. During this
time he and his wife raised two children. Mr. Brockett retired in August
1983 and still resides in Tulsa, Oklahoma today. He enjoys retirement by
travelling, doing volunteer work, and visiting his two grand children.
