MISSION REPORT - RESCUES - 01
[Back][Next]

01 MARCH 1945
First Lieutenant Frank Rauschkolb, pilot of "Playmate Four Three", departed Morotai at 0530, landed at Labo at 1000 and picked up Lieutenant Dowse. He left for Sanghie at 1015 to proceed immediately to 02 degrees 40'N, 122 degrees 50'E. Lieutenant Rauschkolb flew a heading of 095 degrees and arrived in Celelaba, Halmaheras at 1720. At 1750, he sighted a survivor in a life raft, one half mile off shore. He landed in in the bay and took him aboard. The pilot, Lieutenant Brady, 35th Bomb Group, 5th Air Force, was flying from Biak to Morotai and became lost, not having any maps of the area. His gas was running low and he elected to ditch his plane. Fortunately, he was seen by other pilots and his position reported. His early rescue saved him from being captured by the Japs. He was unhurt and returned to Morotai at 1930.
